It was all fun and pageantry as 2013 final year students of the department of Political Science of University of Abuja marked their graduation amidst celebration in Abuja.

The student noted that the celebration was necessary owing to the numerous strike actions embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).

The students who  ought to have graduated in 2013 but were unable to round off their final exams owing to the 2013 nationwide  ASUU strike action which lasted for almost six months could not hide their joy.

Some of the students who spoke with City Box Magazine correspondents expressed mixed feelings noting that although they are elated to witness the climax of their respective academic pursuit which has kept them in the university for the past four years, they are unsure of the future as unemployment rates in Nigeria continue to metastasize.

Others however stated that equipped with the political and social training from the university, they are willing and ready to be part of the process in repositioning Nigeria on the path of development.

A graduant, Ayo Omolale who is a media affiliate to Voice of America (VOA), noted that he is hopeful about the future of Nigeria, adding that with the extensive training gathered from the tertiary institution, he sees himself as part of the new generation of leaders to rescue Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.

The visibly ecstatic class representative, Blessing Ngwu noted that representing the class from their first year to graduation was a wonderful experience which has given her the opportunity to gain experience in leadership. She wished her comrades and students well in their future endeavours.

The Vice President of the departmental Christian Fellowship, Osas Ofasa stated that it was by God’s grace that they were able to push and pull through despite obstacles.

She attributed the victory to the fervent prayers of the students adding that the moments spent praying wasn’t wasted. She thanked her lecturers for their support and dedication.

Other enthusiastic celebrants who expressed their joy while chatting with City Box Magazine stated that their sojourn in the school for the entire academic sections were littered with pleasant moments.

They noted that they were able to make it armed with determination and hardwork. While thanking the school authorities, their lecturers and colleagues for making their time in the school worthwhile, Bruno, Jennifer, Barbie and Damilola Oyeleke, prayed for better times in the future and hope to make the institution proud.
