The much anticipated approval of the movie, Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been granted by the Nigerian Film and Video Censor Board (NFVCB) directed by Biyi Bandele
According to the Board’s Corporate Affairs representative, Caesar
Kagho, the film which stars Academy Awards nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor,
Hollywood star, Thandie Newton and A list Nollywood actors, has been
approved for viewership in Nigeria and rated “18″. “All approved movies fulfilled the regulatory conditions stipulated by the NFVCB,” Mr Kagho said.
The movie was earlier denied approval for viewing in Nigeria owing to the volatile state of the nation, because of the sensitive scenes in the movie which was set in the Nigeria's Civil War or the Biafra War.
The Censor board argued that the movie might wipe up sentiments bothering on ethnicity which can result into causing unhealthy debates about the cause, victims and villains of the Civil War. This the board noted was unhealthy for the current state of the Nation.
